47. Colonial Connecticut
- See how our colonial forefathers lived. Start at Putnam Cottage (c.1692) in Greenwich, I-95 Exit 3. It was a meeting place for local leaders during the Revolutionary War.
- Henry Whitfield State Museum (c.1639) in Guilford, I-95 Exit 58, is New England's oldest stone house. Visit the herb garden and museum shop. Tour the Thomas Griswold House (c.1774) and the Hyland House (1690) on Boston Street
- then take scenic Rte. 77 north through Durham to Rte. 9 north in Middletown and I-91 north to Old Wethersfield Exit 26. The Buttolph-Williams House (c.1710) is a colonial mansion with period furnishings. Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum in Wethersfield comprises three, 18th century homes.
- The Noah Webster House in West Hartford, I-84 Exit 41, is the restored colonial birthplace of the author of the first American dictionary.
